Programs & Committees

Enrichment Events

The NSM PTA sponsors social and educational events throughout the year to enrich the learning experiences of our students.  Please see the Events & Traditions page for more information about these and other activities.  Look for announcements throughout the year to find out how you can volunteer and participate, or contact enrichment@nsmontessori.org.

Greens & Grounds

The Greens and Grounds committee consists of parents who manage and assist with the North Shoreview Montessori (NSM) Greens and Grounds program. The Greens portion of the program highlights classroom ecology, botany, and conservation by providing outdoor classroom activities, which includes a garden for each classroom. The Grounds portion of the program is run by parents, who maintain and improve the school grounds beyond what the San Mateo-Foster City School District provides.  Contact greens@nsmontessori.org for more information.

Music for Minors

North Shoreview Montessori  participates in the Music For Minors (MFM) program, a nonprofit organization which trains volunteers to teach music in local elementary grade classrooms. Each year a few parents and community members take the 54-hour fall training class, consisting of hands-on training twice a week for 11 weeks. They then have access to workshops and resources through MFM, which they use in their teaching at NSM. If you are thinking about ways to get more involved in your child’s classroom, and if you enjoy music and singing, please consider becoming a MFM docent. Find out more about this rewarding volunteer opportunity by attending one of the volunteer information meetings held each fall.  For more information about MFM, visit their website at www.mfm.org.

Safety Patrol

The Safety Patrol always needs adult crossing guard volunteers to help keep our kids safe and traffic flowing smoothly at school every morning and afternoon. This is definitely one of the most important, yet easy volunteering jobs. There are far too many people rolling through the stop signs, speeding, looking at their cell phones, etc. We need your help! Can you spare an hour or 2 or 3 this school year, please? Any adult family member (grandma, grandpa, aunt, uncle, godmother!) can volunteer and it is applied to your 30 hour commitment. The 3 major intersections each need 1 adult. Morning assistance is especially imperative. Vests and signs are supplied. A quick narrative is also given.

Technology Committee

The North Shoreview Montessori Technology Committee assists the NSM computer lab instructor and SMFC school district staff in setting up and maintaining the lab, classroom computers, the electronic music lab, and other devices on campus.  NSM teachers use a variety of educational software and websites to enhance classroom learning. The Technology Committee is always looking for parents with relevant expertise to join. Contact tech@nsmontessori.org for more information.

Yearbook

Did you take pictures at International Potluck, Historical Timeline, Montessori Maker Faire or other events at the school? Please send them on to be included in the yearbook. If you have candid shots of students and adults on campus, we’ll take those too! Please email the pictures to yearbook@nsmontessori.org. The earlier we receive the photos the more likely we will be able to incorporate some of your beautiful shots in the yearbook.
